1. Overview
Nuan is a cat companion app for relaxing, made for Apple Watch first with an iPhone companion. Nuan the cat reads the Apple Health summaries you allow, estimates roughly how relaxed you are today, and shows it through its pose: very relaxed, steady, a bit tense, or waiting for your data.
This policy covers the Nuan app version 4.0 and later. Version 4.0 has no accounts, no sign-in and no developer server: your data stays on your own iPhone, Apple Watch and widgets, and we never receive or see it. If you still use version 3.x, see section 8.
2. Apple Health Data
The Nuan app reads Apple Health only after you open the Apple Health page in the app (or tap Set Up Health on the watch), read the explanation and allow access in the system prompt. It reads summaries of four things: heart rate variability (HRV SDNN), resting heart rate, sleep analysis and active energy. It only reads; it never writes health data.
Your iPhone and Apple Watch each read about the last 15 days of these summaries, compare them with your own usual, and work out the relaxation score, today’s body signals and the 7-day trend. All of this is calculated on the device.
- Health data is never uploaded to any server or sent to us or any third party.
- Health data is never sold or used for advertising, marketing, tracking or data mining.
- The Nuan app does not send health data between your iPhone and Apple Watch.
The results (score, state, body-signal summaries and daily scores) are saved in the app’s shared container (App Group) on the device so the app, watch and widgets can show them. Like other app data, they may be included in your own device backups. You can turn off Nuan’s access in the Health app at any time.
3. Between iPhone, Apple Watch and Widgets
Your iPhone and Apple Watch sync directly with each other through Apple’s WatchConnectivity, and only two things cross: the latest score the watch calculated with the time it was calculated, and whether Lifetime has been purchased. Raw health data never crosses.
Home Screen, Lock Screen and watch face widgets read only the shared container on the device. They do not connect to the internet, read Apple Health or access any credentials.
4. Lifetime Purchase
Nuan Lifetime is a one-time purchase (a non-consumable in-app purchase). It is not a subscription and never renews. Apple handles payment, refunds and billing through the App Store; we do not receive your name, email or payment details.
The app uses Apple’s StoreKit 2 on the device to check whether you own Lifetime and saves the result on the device so the watch and widgets can unlock styles. There is no server-side check, and we keep no record of your purchase.
5. Rest Reminder
The rest reminder is a local notification scheduled on your iPhone. The app asks for notification permission only the first time you turn the reminder on. The reminder time and days are saved only on your iPhone, and sending the reminder needs no internet.
You can turn the reminder off in the app, or turn off Nuan’s notifications in Settings, at any time.
6. What We Don’t Do
Nuan 4.0:
- Needs no sign-up or sign-in, and collects no phone number, email or name.
- Shows no ads and includes no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs.
- Does not ask for location, camera, photos, contacts or microphone access.
- Connects to nothing except Apple’s App Store services for purchases and the help pages you choose to open.
If you choose to share analytics with app developers in your device settings, Apple may give us aggregated crash reports and usage statistics under Apple’s privacy policy. They do not identify you, and you can turn sharing off in Settings at any time.
7. Help Pages and Email
This policy, the Terms of Use and the support page are ordinary web pages. When you open them, the web server keeps a standard access log (such as IP address, browser type and time), used only for security and troubleshooting and never linked to anything in the app.
If you email us, we receive your email address and what you write, and use them only to reply to you. You never need to send health data when contacting support.
8. Data From Version 3.x
Version 3.x of the app offered AI palm reading, which required Sign in with Apple and, with your consent, uploaded data to the developer server. Starting with 4.0, AI palm reading, sign-in, the birth profile and other old features are gone, and the app no longer connects to that server.
The first time you open 4.0 after updating, the app clears what the old version left on the device: the birth profile, palm-reading history, the sign-in credential, old shared state and notifications the old version scheduled. Old data is not carried over to 4.0.
If you signed in on 3.x, the server still keeps your account record (your Apple account identifier is stored only as a hash or encrypted), quota, consent records (with a hash of your IP address and device information) and the text results of AI palm reading until the old service shuts down. Before it shuts down, we will delete all user data and revoke Sign in with Apple authorization. To delete it sooner, use Delete Account on a device that still has 3.x, or email us.
Until the old service shuts down, devices still running 3.x can keep using AI palm reading. Only after you confirm the consent page does the app upload the palm photo, which hand, the selected topic, the consent version, the language and any birth profile summary you set; your nickname is never uploaded. The server strips metadata such as EXIF, sends the photo to the third-party AI service OpenAI to create an entertainment-only result, and deletes the photo right after processing without keeping the original. OpenAI may keep request content for a short time under its API data policy for safety and abuse monitoring. Health data is never sent to AI palm reading.
9. Children
Nuan is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect children’s personal information. Because Nuan 4.0 collects no personal information, none reaches us when a child uses it.
10. Changes and Contact
If the way the Nuan app handles data changes, we will update this policy and the date at the top of this page.
